DAECOM
DAECOM's target
DAECOM counts the number of aerosol fibers that are over 5 microns long and that have an aspect ratio (length to width ratio) larger than 3. DAECOM is set to count fibers with a diameter over a minimum of 0.5microns and also over 5 microns long which is defined in JIS K3850-1 for determination of airborne fibrous particles. DAECOM is capable of measuring fibrous aerosol and other content in the air calibrated in accordance with the PCM method (Membrane filter method). There are many kinds of fibrous aerosol, including asbestos, rock wool, glass wool, and other artificial mineral fibers, as well as organic fibers such as cloth and woods fibers.
DAECOM's monitoring method and principles
DAECOM processes two liters of air per minute through an electric field so that fibrous aerosol is suspended vertically. By focusing a 10mW He-Ne laser on these aerosol fibers and directing the scattered light ray at a photo multiplier, the ray is divided into vertical and horizontal polarizations, thus making identification of fibrous aerosol possible.
The number of aerosol fibers detected is then converted by a calibration coefficient calculated through experimental data and DAECOM displays and prints out the fibrous aerosol and normal particle densities. The monitoring period may be set between one and ninety minutes. Accuracy is increased with longer durations.

DAECOM’s Maintenance
DAECOM is calibrated in accordance with the PCM method by using asbestos. Calibration and maintenance should be conducted twice per year.
